RALEIGH, N.C. – One of the featured matchups in college football this weekend, as #16 NC State makes the two-hour drive down I-40 to take on #12 Wake Forest. In the ACC Atlantic standings, the Demon Deacons sit a perfect 5-0, while the Pack is right behind with a 4-1 mark.
Â
The game will kick off at 7:30 p.m., and will be televised on the ACC Network.
Â
"Our last road game coming up, we've played four out of the last five on the road," said head coach Dave Doeren. "It's a tough schedule that way, and playing the team with the best record in our league with Wake.
Â
"They're a really good football team, a well-coached team. They're a high-scoring group and they're playing with confidence on offense."
Â
The Demon Deacons enter the contest ranking third nationally in scoring offense (44.7 points per game) and sixth nationally in total offense (508.7 yards per game). In their last three games they have scored 70, 45 and 55 points.
Â
NC State has posted just as good rankings on defense this season. The Pack ranks sixth nationally in scoring defense (16.0) and 19th in total defense (321.4). NC State has not allowed more than 434 yards in an ACC game this season, and only Miami has scored more than 21 points on the Pack's defense.
Â
"We're gonna have to play really well in the secondary, we're gonna have to help our secondary with pass rush, with underneath coverage, with changeups," said Doeren. "We're gonna have to compete."
Â
NC State has faced Wake Forest more times than any other opponent in its 129 years of football. Saturday's game will mark the 115th meeting between the two schools, with NC State holding a 67-41-6 all-time advantage.
Â
This will mark only the second meeting when both teams come in nationally ranked. The only previous match up was in 1992, as #13 NC State downed #25 Wake Forest 42-14 at Carter-Finley Stadium.
Â
"It's gonna be a great game and a great challenge, and I look forward to the opportunity for the guys on our staff to compete against theirs," said Doeren.
Â
"It's a rivalry that's been going on a long time. There's a lot of people that feel a certain way about playing this game, so it's great to be a part of it at this point in the season where both teams are relevant and are playing for a lot."
