CORAL GABLES, Fla. – NC State fell short in its weekend finale as the Pack lost 3-0 (30-32, 20-25, 19-25) to Miami on Sunday afternoon in Atlantic Coast Conference volleyball action at the Knight Sports Complex.
The Wolfpack (7-8, 1-3 ACC) stayed with the Hurricanes (12-2, 3-1 ACC) early in each set but the Canes used multiple runs at the end of each set to earn the win.
Graduate student Melissa Evans had an outstanding match as she paced both teams with 21 kills while hitting .410 on the day. As the middle, freshman Jada Allen posted seven kills on 13 swings for a .462 hitting percentage with two blocks.
Junior Kristen McDaniel led the way with 36 assists while graduate student Kaylee Frazier tallied a match-high 15 digs.
Set One (NC State 30, Miami 32)
The first set was one for the books as there were 18 ties and four lead changes. The Wolfpack fought off eight set points before getting to 30 when the down referee made a questionable net call against NC State that gave Miami its ninth set point. Miami would go on to win the set with a kill. Evans was nearly unstoppable in the set as she recorded six kills on an errorless 10 swings for a .600 hitting percentage.
Set Two (NC State 20, Miami 25)
The second set was a battle early on as all four ties in the set came before point four. Tied at 4-4, Miami reeled off a 4-0 run that created enough momentum to hold off the Pack. NC State tried to battle back, coming within two points multiple times including late in the set at 21-19 but could not overcome the early deficit.
Set Three (NC State 19, Miami 25)
The final set started off slow for NC State but after an early timeout, the Wolfpack went on a 5-0 run to take a 5-4 lead. Neither team could gain more than a two-point lead all the way through 17-15 before Miami grabbed another kill for an 18-15 lead forcing NC State to use its final timeout. NC State tried to come back late but was unable to seal the gap and dropped the final set.

The Pack will return to Reynolds Coliseum for a pair of matchups next weekend. NC State opens the weekend with a Friday contest against Virginia Tech at 7 p.m. before facing Wake Forest on Sunday at 1 p.m. Both games will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra.
