
Cross Country to Open Postseason at ACC Championships

RALEIGH - The NC State cross country teams are set to open their postseasons at the 2021 ACC Cross Country Championships Friday, Oct. 29. The meet will be hosted by Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind., with the women's race taking place at 10:10 a.m. and the men's race following at 11:00 a.m.
The meet will feature multiple nationally-ranked teams. The women's race will see a total of five teams in the top-30, all five of which are ranked in the top 25. On the men's side, a pair of top-20 teams will compete.

2020 ACC CHAMPIONSHIPS REWIND
NC State's programs each recorded top-two team finishes at the 2020 ACC Championships with the women's squad taking the title and the men's team finishing as the runners-up. The win by the women marked the team's fifth-straight ACC Championship and its 26th overall.
Then-redshirt senior Dominique Clairmonte took home the individual title at the 2020 meet, winning the race by 11 seconds. Hannah Steelman recorded a third-place finish, and both Clairmonte and Steelman returned for the 2021 seasons. The pair earned All-ACC status alongside Mariah Howlett, Kelsey Chmiel and Ashley Holt.
Ian Shanklin registered a second-place individual finish on the men's side, the highest placement of his career. He was one of five All-ACC honorees for the NC State men as he was joined by Joe Bistritz, Gavin Gaynor, JP Flavin and Hannes Burger in the honor.
PACK IN THE POLLS
The NC State women have been ranked in the top two in the USTFCCCA National Coaches Poll for the duration of the 2021 season. In the most recent edition of the rankings, the Wolfpack women are ranked No. 2 behind New Mexico.
In the regional rankings, the women check in at No. 1 while the men moved up a spot to No. 5 in the most recent poll.
LAST TIME OUT
The Wolfpack squads traveled to Madison, Wisc., for the Nuttycombe Invitational, a meet which featured 37 ranked teams between the men's and women's races. The women placed second while the men finished in 23rd.
Chmiel was NC State's first finisher on the women's side, taking second place with a time of 20:00.02 ahead of 2020 NCAA individual runner-up Taylor Roe (Oklahoma State). For her efforts, Chmiel won her second career ACC Performer of the Week honors. The junior never fell below 16th place throughout the competition.
