NC State Earns Second-Straight Win with Victory Over Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The NC State women's soccer team (6-6-2, 2-4-0 ACC) tallied its second ACC win of the season and the weekend on Sunday, taking down Louisville in a 2-1 decision. The win is the Wolfpack's third-straight over the Cardinals and increased NC State's lead in the series to 5-3-1.

The match was a battle from the outset with each team taking three shots in the first 10 minutes of play.

It took just 12 minutes for the Pack to open its scoring in the match with a goal by Jameese Joseph. Jenna Butler sent a pass from midfield, drawing Louisville goalkeeper Gabby Kouzelos out in an effort to make the save. Joseph was in place to send the rebound off Kouzelos' fingers into the net for her sixth goal of 2021.

Maria Echezarreta kept Louisville out of the goal twice in the opening half, tabbing a pair of saves in the 25th and 27th minutes.

Joseph took two shots to open second-half play, but it was Annika Wohner who was able to increase NC State's lead in the 58th minute, heading a cross from Lulu Guttenberger into the goal to put the Pack up 2-0. Wohner's goal was her fifth of the season.

Louisville's Sarah Hernandez scored the Cardinals' only goal of the game in the 64th minute. Louisville was able to get two more shots off before the final horn, two of which were saved by Echezarreta. The freshman goalkeeper totaled four saves on the day, edging Louisville's Kouzelos (two saves).

NC State returns home for a Saturday matchup Oct. 16. Fifth-ranked North Carolina will make the trip to Raleigh for a 7pm matchup that will be broadcast on ACCNX.
