RALEIGH – In its second top-20 face off of the early season, the eighth-ranked NC State women's tennis team (2-1) breezed by No. 18 UCF (0-2), blanking the Knights by a 4-0 score Monday afternoon in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend consolation match.
NC State was fired up to start the match and came out strong on all three doubles courts on its way to claiming the opening point.
In a top-10 matchup on court one, the Pack's second-ranked Anna Rogers and Alana Smith easily handled the sixth-ranked UCF duo of Rebeka Stolmar and Marie Mattel. Rogers and Smith cruised to the 6-1 win to put the attention on courts two and three.
No. 16 Adriana Reami and Jaeda Daniel took a multi-game lead with a break and did not look back on their way to beating Sara Culbertson and Ksenia Kuznetsova 6-4 to clinch.
The Pack maintained its momentum in singles action, quickly picking up back-to-back wins to push its team lead to 3-0. No. 23 Smith was the first match off as she breezed by No. 42 Stolmar in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1.
No. 38 Reami added a straight-sets win of her own just seconds later, defeating Jaleesa Leslie of UCF 6-3, 6-3. Her victory put NC State just a point away from the clinch with Rogers and Daniel both up a set on their courts.
