RALEIGH – NC State senior Elly Henes has been honored as a member of the 2019-20 CoSIDA Academic All-District Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Teams, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) organization.
Henes is one of a total of 10 women who were named First Team honorees from District 3, which includes NCAA Division I programs from North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. The honors mark the second season in a row that a woman from the program has been named to the Academic All-District Team, as Nell Crosby earned designation as an Academic All-American in 2019.
Henes earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from NC State earlier this month. She posted a perfect 4.0 GPA during the spring semester and wrapped up her undergraduate studies with a 3.644 cumulative GPA. The Cary, N.C., native adds to her list of academic awards after being named the 2019 ACC Cross Country Scholar Athlete of the Year. In her career, Henes is a three-time USTFCCCA Academic All-American and a seven-time All-ACC Academic Team honoree between cross country and track and field.
She put together an incredible senior campaign in 2019 to wrap up her NC State cross country career. Henes became the first-ever ACC Cross Country Performer of the Year for the Wolfpack women and also earned NCAA Southeast Region Women's Athlete of the Year honors after winning gold at both of those meets. She concluded the season with a personal-best national result, a 10th-place finish that garnered her All-America honors in cross country for the third year in a row.
Overall, Henes has been named an All-American seven times in cross country and track and field. She also owns three conference titles and nine all-conference honors in the sports.
Henes still has track eligibility remaining and will return to NC State for the 2020-21 season. After the All-District announcement, she is now eligible for consideration for CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.
