HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Cavaliers struck in the second with three runs on as many hits. Logan Michaels led off the frame with a double down the left field line, and advanced to third on a groundout to first. After teammate Devin Ortiz walked to put runners at the corners, they pulled off the double steal to plate a run.
-Jimmy Sullivan belted a one-out homer over the right field wall to bring two more runs across.
-After two scoreless innings where the Pack couldn't push a run across with the bases loaded, NC State got on the board in the third with a bases-loaded fielder's choice.
-Virginia answered in the bottom frame to regain its three-run lead. Zack Gelof and Marc Lebreux started the inning with back-to-back walks, and after a sac bunt moved them over, a wild pitch scored Gelof.
-In the sixth, Patrick Bailey's two-out double to right center brought a run in for the Pack. Austin Murr reached on a single to right field, and a groundout to second put him in scoring position.
-Virginia responded with two runs in its half of the sixth on an error and sac fly to right field after a pair of hit-by-pitches started the side.
-Tyler McDonough cut the Pack's deficit to three in the eighth with his second home run of the season, a solo shot to left field.
-Once again, the Cavaliers answered in the bottom half of the inning to keep its four-run lead, as Max Cotier, Gelof and Lebrux strung together three consecutive hits to drive a run in.
-The Pack tried to rally in the ninth, loading the bases on two outs thanks to J.T. Jarrett's double to left field, pinch hitter Brad Debo's walk and Murr's single through the right side, but couldn't bring any runs in.
QUICK HITS
-Bailey, Devonte Brown, McDonough and Murr all extended their reached base streaks to 13.
-Brown additionally extended his hit streak to 13 and tallied his team-leading seventh multi-hit game with a 2-for-3 outing.
-Murr also tallied two hits in his four plate appearances for his sixth multi-hit game of the season.
-McDonough's homer marked the 10th-straight game the Pack has hit at least one home run.
