RALEIGH, N.C. - The Atlantic Coast Conference has announced seeding and brackets for the 2020 ACC Wrestling Championship, which will be held this Sunday (March 8) at Pitt's Petersen Events Center.
The 2020 ACC regular-season champions with a perfect 5-0 mark in conference duals, NC State earned a pair of No. 1 seeds – R-Jr. Tariq Wilson at 141 pounds and R-Jr. Hayden Hidlay at 157 pounds.
Seven of the Pack's 10 participants earned a bye into the semifinals as either the top seed or No. 2 seed in their weight class. R-Fr. Jakob Camacho (125), R-Jr. Thomas Bullard (165), R-Jr. Daniel Bullard (174), R-Fr. Trent Hidlay (184) and So. Deonte Wilson (285) all are seeded second in their weight classes.
R-Fr. Jarrett Trombley (133) and R-So. A.J. Leitten (149) will both enter as the third seed in their weight class, while So. Tyrie Houghton (197) is the sixth seed.
The host Panthers lead with three wrestlers seeded No. 1 in their respective weight classes brackets. North Carolina and Virginia join NC state with each have two earned two No. 1 seeds, and Virginia Tech has one. Seeds were determined by a vote of the league's six head coaches.
Each weight class champion and runner-up at the 2020 ACC Championship will earn All-ACC recognition. In addition to ACC honors, student-athletes will be vying for berths and seeding in the 2020 NCAA Wrestling Championships, which will be held March 19-21 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. The ACC has been awarded 35 automatic berths – the second-highest total in league history – and is hopeful of earning several more at-large selections.
The doors to the Petersen Events Center will open at 10 a.m. on Sunday, with first-round action kicking off the event at 11 a.m. Semifinals are set for 1 p.m., followed by the consolation semifinals at 3:30 p.m. and the consolation finals at 5 p.m. Championship matches begin at 7 p.m., followed by the awards presentation.
ACC Network and ACC Network Extra plan nearly 10 hours of live coverage from 11 a.m. through 9 p.m. ACC Network Extra will stream early and consolations rounds, with 7 p.m. set for live linear broadcast on ACC Network.
