RALEIGH – The NC State men's swimming team will open its postseason action as it competes at the 2020 ACC Championship. The four-day meet is set to run Feb. 26-29 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, N.C.
The finals on Thursday, Friday and Saturday will be streamed on ACC Network Extra beginning at 6 p.m. each evening.
MEET NOTEBOOK:
The NC State men are gunning for their sixth consecutive ACC team title, and the 30th total for the program. The divers got the squad off to its best start in program history, as their 123 points place the Pack in fourth place heading into this weekend. James Brady was named the ACC Most Valuable Diver after advancing to three finals and winning the three-meter board.
2019-20 SEASON RUNDOWN:
The Pack is 5-0 in dual meets this season, including a 4-0 record against conference opponents.
The men currently sit at No. 5 in the CSCAA/TYR Top 25, and have been ranked in the top seven the entirety of the season.
SUCCESS UNDER HOLLOWAY:
The NC State men had not won an ACC team championship since 1991-92 prior to head coach Braden Holloway's arrival. It took him just four years to reach the top of the conference after the squad finished eighth the year prior to his arrival.
RETURNING FOR THE PACK:
The men return 14 ACC event titles, including five titles from last year. Coleman Stewart took home the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke championships for the second consecutive year, and Eric Knowles took home the 500-yard freestyle gold medal.
2018-19 ACC CHAMPIONSHIPS REWIND:
NC State took home the title with 1,369.5 points last season. Every swimmer that competed for the Pack at the 2019 ACC Championships scored points for the team. NC State picked up a total of 17 podium finishes, including five gold medals. Ten swimmers and divers took home All-ACC honors with podium finishes in their individual events or top finishes as part of a relay.
Stewart was honored as ACC Meet Co-MVP after racking up two individual titles and a relay title and breaking a pair of ACC records over the course of the four-day meet. It marked the third straight season that a swimmer from NC State had been honored as meet MVP.
