Gymnastics Posts Season-High 196.500 in Tri-Meet Win

RALEIGH - The NC State gymnastics team hosted William & Mary and Centenary in Valvano Arena at Reynolds Coliseum on Friday, recording the top score among the three teams with a 196.500. William & Mary posted a 192.975 while Centenary tabbed a 189.250. The score is the highest for the Wolfpack this season.
The Wolfpack began the meet on vault, recording a team score of 48.925. Senior Drew Grantham notched a 9.825, her highest score of the season in the event while freshman Emily Shepard tabbed a 9.850 and a first-place finish. Freshman Chloe Negrete improved her career best in the event with a 9.825. Grantham and Negrete tied for second place in the rotation.
NC State began bars with a pair of career-high scores by Shepard and Grantham. Shepard posted a 9.875 and, her score was immediately followed by a 9.850 from Grantham.
Sophomore Meredith Robinson tied her career-high score of 9.875. Junior Lauren Kent tabbed a 9.875 while senior Melissa Brooker posted a season-best 9.825 in the event. Shepard, Robinson and Kent tied for first place in the rotation.
The Wolfpack compiled its best bars score of the season with a 49.300. The mark ties for the seventh-highest in program history.
On beam, senior Alexis Beucler led off for NC State with a 9.800 and a third-place finish. Negrete placed second in the rotation with a 9.825 while Grantham topped the standings with a 9.850. NC State's 49.025 in the event marks the team's second-highest beam score of the season.
The final rotation of the night for NC State was floor, and Kent began the event for the squad with a 9.800. Shepard followed her with a 9.850, and junior Kasey Nelson earned a 9.825. Beucler tabbed a 9.850, and Grantham posted her third consecutive 9.900 or higher in the event, taking first place with a 9.925 and notching a season best.
The Wolfpack posted a 49.000 or higher on floor for the fourth consecutive meet, compiling a 49.250.
In the all-around competition, Grantham posted a season-high score of 39.450 for a first-place finish. Kent took second with a career-high 39.125.
