RALEIGH – The NC State women's swimming and diving team and the men's diving team will open postseason action as they compete at the 2020 ACC Championships. The four-day meet is set to run Feb. 19-22 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, N.C.
The finals on Thursday, Friday and Saturday will be streamed on ACC Network Extra beginning at 6 p.m. each evening.
MEET NOTEBOOK:
NC State's women have won four ACC team titles in the history of the conference meet. The Pack took home first-place honors as a team in 2019, marking the program's second title in three seasons. NC State had earned ACC Champion status just two times in 35 years before head coach Braden Holloway's arrival. In his eight years, he has led the squad to two conference titles and has not finished outside the top five since his first season (2012).
The Wolfpack owns titles in 93 events since the inception of the conference meet in 1979. NC Stat's women also hold six conference championship records (200-yard backstroke, 100-yard breaststroke, 200-yard individual medley, 200-yard freestyle relay, 200-yard medley relay, 400-yard medley relay). The women set the 100-yard breaststroke, 200-yard freestyle relay, 200-yard medley relay and 400-yard medley relay records last season.
2019-20 SEASON RUNDOWN:
The Wolfpack women hold a 7-2 head-to-head record this season, including a 3-1 record against ACC opponents. The squad's lone loss came at Virginia in late January.
The women have been ranked in the top 7 of the CSCAA/TYR Top 25 poll for the entirety of the season, and currently sit at No. 3 in the polls, marking the best ranking for the women in program history.
SUCCESS UNDER HOLLOWAY:
During the 2010-11 season, NC State placed eighth at the ACC Championships and scored zero points at the NCAA Championships. Since Holloway took over as head coach in 2011-12, NC State's women have secured four consecutive top-three finishes at the ACC Championships, including conference crowns in 2017 and 2019.
ROSTER FULL OF RETURNERS:
The Wolfpack women won eight non-relay events at the ACC Championships last season. Six of those eight gold medals were won by women who returned to the roster this season: Julia Poole – 200-yard individual medley, Kate Moore – 400-yard individual medley, Sophie Hansson – 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke, Madeline Kline – platform and Emma Muzzy – 200-yard backstroke.
2018-19 ACC CHAMPIONSHIPS REWIND:
The Pack women won their second conference championships in three years as they collected 11 event titles over the course of the week. That mark set the program record for most single-season conference titles. The 11 wins topped the previous mark of 10 titles won in 1980.
NC State tallied a total of 20 podium finishes as 12 different swimmers and divers medaled across those finishes to take home All-ACC honors. Those 12 swimmers are the most All-ACC honorees in program history for the women.
