10th-Ranked Men's Tennis Set for ITA Indoors

RALEIGH - The 10th-ranked NC State men's tennis team returns to action Friday, Feb. 14 as it competes in the ITA Men's Team National Indoor Championship, hosted by Wisconsin in Madison, Wisc., for the first time in program history. The team takes on No. 8 Stanford in its first match of the weekend at 1 p.m. ET Friday.
ITA Indoors is a single-elimination tournament that takes place over four days, and each team is guaranteed three matches at the event. The champion is crowned Monday, Feb. 17.
LAST TIME OUT
NC State maintains an 8-0 record after defeating Penn, 4-0, and Princeton, 4-1, in its last two matches. The doubles pair of Tadas Babelis and Yannai Barkai defeated then-No. 13 Ryan Seggerman and Payton Holding in the matchup with Princeton for their first ranked doubles win of the year.
Babelis additionally defeated a ranked singles opponent in NC State's win over Penn as he defeated then-No. 88 Kevin Zhu, 6-4, 7-5.
WOLFPACK IN THE RANKINGS
As a team, the Wolfpack sits at No. 10 in the Oracle/ITA rankings. The spot marks the highest team ranking in program history.
Babelis and Barkai moved to No. 12 in the doubles rankings released on Wednesday, Feb. 5. The pair was previously ranked 32nd. Senior Alexis Galarneau and junior Robert Turzak entered the doubles rankings at No. 44 after getting the win over the then-No. 53 duo of Gianni Ross and William Woodall when the Wolfpack defeated then-No. 23 Virginia.
In the singles rankings, Galarneau checked in at No. 77. The senior was victorious over ranked opponents in NC State's matches against Northwestern and then-No. 17 Michigan and additionally tabbed a win over Virginia's Carl Soderlund, who was the top-ranked singles player in the preseason Oracle/ITA rankings.
SCOUTING THE CARDINAL
Stanford claimed matches over two top-15 teams this season, taking down then-No. 13 California in a 4-0 decision and later defeating then-No. 11 UCLA, 4-2.
Four members of the Cardinal are currently ranked in singles. Junior Axel Geller and sophomore Alexandre Rotsaert both rank in the top 25, Geller checking in at No. 16 and Rotsaert holding the No. 21 position. Sophomore Sangeet Sridhar sits at No. 57, and freshman Neel Rajesh rounds out Stanford's group of ranked singles players at No. 98.
