Wolfpack Set for Action at Janis Hape Dowd UNC Invitational

RALEIGH – After kicking off their 2020-21 campaigns against UNC just about a month ago, the NC State men's and women's swimming and diving teams will make the return to Chapel Hill, N.C., this weekend to participate in the Janis Hape Dowd Invitational.
The meet is set to run Thursday, Dec. 3 through Saturday, Dec. 5. The prelims will begin at 10 a.m. each morning followed by a 6 p.m. finals session each evening. The No. 11 Virginia Tech men, No. 17 Hokie women, No. 23 North Carolina men, the No. 23 Tar Heel women, the unranked Duke men and No. 16 Duke women will all be competing against the Pack at the meet.
Due to health and safety recommendations and current state guidelines, this event is closed to the public.
PACK IN THE POLLS:
Both NC State squads maintained their spots in the national top 10 of the November edition of the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) poll. The Pack men maintained a No. 4 ranking as the highest-ranked ACC squad, and the Wolfpack women were tabbed No. 7 nationally.
LAST TIME OUT:
The Wolfpack squads picked up season-opening wins against rival North Carolina on the weekend of Nov. 6-7. It was their first action since the 2020 ACC Championship event, and the squads swam an adjusted slate of events to get back in the swing of things.
The No. 6 Wolfpack women cruised to the 224-167 victory over the No. 18 Tar Heels, and the fourth-ranked Pack men wrapped up the perfect weekend with a 212.5-201.5 defeat of No. 24 UNC.
SWIMMER OF THE WEEK:
Sprint freestyler Hunter Tapp was named ACC Men's Swimmer of the Week on Nov. 10 following the Pack's season opener. He picked up top finishes in all three individual events that he competed in, touching first in the 50-yard (20.51), 100-yard (44.16) and 150-yard (1:10.85) freestyle events.
