Pack freshman won 97kg weight class in first tournament with Pack
OMAHA, NEBRASKA – NC State freshman Isaac Trumble started his Wolfpack Wrestling career off in style. First tournament, first gold medal coming back to Raleigh.
Â
Trumble won the 97kg weight class in Greco-Roman at the UWW Junior Nationals Friday in Omaha, Neb. With a bye into the semifinals, Trumble won both of his matches with first-period tech falls, outscoring his two foes 20-0 on the day.
Â
"I feel really good, ready to wrestle more," Trumble said afterwards. "Obviously I always want to win. Everyday coach Pat Popolizio texts a good morning and let's win. Everyday you have to get up and win the day. Today was Greco, tomorrow hopefully freestyle."
Â
Trumble scored a 12-0 tech to start his day and advance to the finals.
Â
In the championship bout, Trumble again pitched the shutout, downing San Francisco State's Denzel Mabry 8-0. Trumble scored a takedown, turned it into a gut wrench for the 4-0 lead. He ended the bout with a body lock, a four-point move.
Â
"He beat me at Fargo my junior year, got pinned. That loss stuck with me."
Â
Trumble has a quick turnaround, as he will be one of seven current members of the Pack competing in freestyle tomorrow at the UWW Junior Nationals.
