RALEIGH, N.C. – Jade Parchment was firing on all cylinders Friday evening as NC State hosted North Carolina in its home opener despite North Carolina coming away with the 3-0 win. Parchment recorded a match-high 14 kills while also recording five digs and a block.
NC State (0-3) was led defensively by Kristen McDaniel with 15 digs. McDaniel also matched her career-high of three blocks in addition to 27 assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Wolfpack came out to a solid 7-5 lead in the first set, thanks to a pair of kills by Hartley Myers. However, NC State couldn't keep North Carolina quite for long as the Tar Heels had a 4-1 run to take a 10-8 lead. North Carolina would not give up the lead the remainder of the set, thanks to three kills by Amanda Phegley.
Parchment continued to carry the load with five kills in a hard fought second set that featured five tied scores. Down 15-11, NC State went on a 6-2 run which included two kills by Parchment and a block from McDaniel and Mmachi Nwoke. Carolina came back for a 24-19 lead and despite a kill from Lydia Adam to starve off the first set point, the Tar Heels took the set on an NC State error.
NC State fought through the third set, holding North Carolina to a tie match at 15 before back-to-back kills for the Tar Heels helped push them to a four-point advantage they would hold onto.
