GREENSBORO, N.C. – Recent NC State graduate Tziarra King has been named the 2019 Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year, as announced by the league office on Tuesday morning.
King continues to leave her legacy in Raleigh, as she is the first women's soccer player to win the prestigious award. The honor comes after she recently became the first player in program history to be selected in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) Draft.
Alongside King, five others from the Wolfpack were named to the 2019 All-ACC Academic Team: Lulu Guttenberger, Jameese Joseph, Kia Rankin, Krissi Schuster and Ricci Walkling. The six players tie the most the Wolfpack has placed on the team in a single season.
"These accolades symbolize what our entire program is about - really good people and really good students who happen to play soccer well," said head coach Tim Santoro. "I'm proud of these honorees but it's their commitment and hard work, in everything they do, that allow them to be honored. They set a standard you hope the others follow."
For King and Walkling, this is their fourth honor in as many years. They become the second and third players in program history to earn the distinction every year in their respective careers.
For Rankin and Schuster, this is the third honor of their careers. Additionally, this is Guttenberger's second mention.
Three players have recently earned recognition from CoSIDA and United Soccer Coaches. Schuster earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors, while King was tabbed an Academic All-American by CoSIDA and United Soccer Coaches. Guttenberger also earned praise for her success on the field and in the classroom, as she was named to the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-Region Team.
The six players boasted a combined 3.812 grade-point average for the 2019 fall semester.
