No. 17 Wolfpack Defeats Utah State in ITA Kickoff Weekend Opener

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. - The 17th-ranked NC State men's tennis team was victorious in its first round of 2020 ITA Kickoff Weekend competition, defeating the Utah State Aggies 4-0. NC State moves to 5-0 with the win while the Aggies drop to 1-2. The Wolfpack will compete at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26 against No. 23 Virginia or Memphis for a spot in the ITA Division I National Men's Team Indoor Championship.
The Wolfpack clinched the doubles point with wins on courts one and two. The 32nd-ranked duo of Tadas Babelis and Yannai Barkai got the 6-3 win over Felipe Acosta and Javier Ruiz before Alexis Galarneau and Robert Turzak sealed the doubles point for NC State, defeating Sergiu Bucur and Roko Savin 6-2.
Galarneau struck first in singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Bucur. Turzak followed up Galarneau's win with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Savin.
Freshman Robin Catry clinched the win for the Wolfpack, defeating Christian Holmes 6-2, 6-2.

UP NEXT
After concluding action at the 2020 ITA Kickoff Weekend Jan. 26, the team travels to Penn Feb. 1 for a 12:30 p.m. match and then takes on Princeton Feb. 2 at 2 p.m.
