
NC State Travels to Blacksburg to take on the Hokies

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State men's basketball team (11-4, 2-2 ACC) returns to the road Saturday afternoon when it takes on Virginia Tech (11-4, 2-2 ACC) inside Cassell Coliseum at 2 p.m.
The game will be televised on regional sports networks (Fox Sports South in Raleigh) with Evan Lepler and Brian Oliver on the call. NC State fans can also listen to Gary Hahn and Tony Haynes call the action on the Wolfpack Sports Network.
Pack Tracks
- NC State defeated Notre Dame, 73-68, in its last outing. Senior guard Markell Johnson tied his career-high with 27 points on 9-of-15 shooting, while junior forward D.J. Funderburk added 16 points and tied his career-high with nine rebounds.
- Funderburk and Johnson combined to score 21 of the Pack's final 24 points of the game, including the final 15 points of the game for NC State. The only NC State points not scored by the duo in the final 11 minutes of the game was a three-pointer by Braxton Beverly with 6:19 to go. On that play, Funderburk had an offensive rebound to keep the possession alive and kicked it out to Johnson who immediately found Beverly in the corner for a three.
- Freshman Manny Bates had three blocks in the Notre Dame game and continues to pace the ACC and rank sixth in the NCAA in blocks per game (3.2). The Fayetteville, N.C. native broke the NC State single-season blocks record for a freshman Wednesday night, surpassing J.J. Hickson (47) and BeeJay Anya (46). At his current pace of 3.2 blocks per game, Bates would finish the regular season with 99 blocks which would break the program's single-season record of 95, which was done by Thurl Bailey during the 1982-83 National Championship season.

- For the second consecutive game, NC State will face the #1 team in the NCAA in turnovers per game. Notre Dame entered Wednesday's game averaging just 9.6 turnovers per game, the fewest of any team in the NCAA and also leading the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.96) NC State forced the Fighting Irish into 14 turnovers and Notre Dame finished with just 11 assists against 14 turnovers. Virginia Tech has now moved into first in fewest turnovers per game with Notre Dame falling to second. The Hokies average just 9.8 turnovers per game and rank second in the ACC and third in the NCAA in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.61). The Pack's opponents have just 180 assists against 226 turnovers. NC State's opponents have had more turnovers than assists in 11 of 15 games this season.
- Also, for the second consecutive game, NC State will face one of the top-three-point shooting teams in the country. Notre Dame entered Wednesday's game against the Pack, averaging 10.29 three-pointers made per game. After hitting five of its first six three-pointers to start the game, NC State held the Fighting Irish to just 1-of-13 the rest of the way. Notre Dame's six three-pointers tied for the fewest-made by the Irish all season and NC State successfully ran the Irish off the three-point line as Notre Dame attempted a season-low 19 three-point attempts (10 below ND's season average). Virginia Tech enters Saturday's game leading the ACC in three-pointers made per game (10.27) and ranks tied-for-first in the ACC in three-point percentage (37.0%). Virginia Tech also ranks second in the ACC in three-point attempts per game (27.7).
- Markell Johnson has scored in double figures in 11 consecutive games. The longest double-digit scoring streak of his career. He is averaging 15.7 points per game during this stretch.
- D.J. Funderburk is averaging 16.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game over his last four outings while shooting 72.7% from the field. The Cleveland, Ohio native has shot over 50 percent in 11 of the 13 games he's played in this season. He is shooting 66.3% from the field on the season and would lead the ACC in field goal percentage, but just misses out on qualifying to be ranked. (Funderburk averages 4.54 field goals per game and to be ranked a player needs to average 5.0 field goals per game).
