RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State men's basketball head coach Justin Gainey announced two additions to his men's basketball staff on Tuesday in assistant coach Ognjen Vasiljević and director of scouting Matt Holt.
Ognjen Vasiljević
Ognjen Vasiljević has joined the NC State men's basketball coaching staff as an assistant coach.
Vasiljević joins the Pack after spending one season at South Alabama as Assistant Coach and Director of Basketball Operations.
In his one year with the Jaguars, Vasiljević helped lead South Alabama to a second place regular season finish in the Sun Belt conference. South Alabama finished the season with a 21-12 record and received a big into the NIT.
Vasiljevic arrived at South Alabama following four seasons at Life University, a member of the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) in the NAIA. He began his tenure with the Running Eagles as a Graduate Assistant before being elevated to Assistant Coach, a role he held for the last three seasons.
During his time at Life, Vasiljevic played a key role in the development of NAIA First-Team All-American Chaze Harris. He also helped guide the program to three consecutive 20-win seasons, highlighted by a SSAC Tournament Championship and a trip to the Round of 16 in the NAIA National Tournament during the 2024-25 campaign.
Prior to Life University, Vasiljevic began his coaching career in the 2020–21 season at his alma mater, Ohio Valley University, where he served as an assistant coach.
Before starting his coaching career, Vasiljevic had a notable collegiate playing career. He began at the University of Arkansas–Fort Smith, where he helped the program capture two Heartland Conference Championships and make two NCAA Division II National Tournament appearances. He then transferred to Ohio Valley University, playing two seasons and averaging 12 points per game.
Internationally, Vasiljevic was a standout on the Serbian national team, competing in the EuroBasket U16 Championship and contributing to Serbia's silver and bronze medal finishes. In 2011, he was selected as one of 40 top European players to participate in the prestigious Michael Jordan Brand Classic Camp in London.
A native of Loznica, Serbia, Vasiljevic earned his bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Ohio Valley University in 2021.
Matt Holt
Matt Holt has joined the NC State men's basketball coaching staff as director of scouting.
Holt joins the Pack after spending the last three seasons at Georgia Tech as director of player personnel.
Prior to Georgia Tech, Holt spent six seasons at Nebraska.
In his role with the Huskers, Holt oversaw film breakdown and exchanges, as well as opponent scouting for the coaching staff. He also oversaw the program's digital catalog and was in charge of the Husker managers.
Holt came to Nebraska after spending three seasons as the director of basketball operations at Northeastern University. During his tenure at Northeastern, Holt served in a variety of roles, as the program won at least 18 games in two of his three seasons on staff and made the 2015 NCAA Tournament under longtime coach Bill Coen. Holt's duties included video analysis for opponents and self-scouting, assisting the coaching staff in coordinating opponent scouting, helping to coordinate and monitor academic progress, as well as handling team travel and working with campus entities to coordinate team events such as Midnight Madness and Alumni Day. During his three seasons, Northeastern had six All-Colonial Athletic Association selections, including 2017 CAA player of the Year T.J. Williams.
In addition to his three years of experience in basketball administration, Holt also served as an assistant coach for three seasons. During his two-year stint at the University of New Haven, Holt recruited prospective student-athletes and facilitated player development and game preparation. He aided in the development of New Haven's Eric Anderson, who earned NE10 Defensive Player of the Year honors in both seasons Holt was an assistant. Holt also coordinated team travel, as well as community events such as youth camps, coaching clinics, and alumni weekends.
A native of Providence, R.I., Holt spent the 2011-12 season as an assistant coach at Rhode Island College, where he assisted in scouting opponents. He was responsible for organizing daily team schedules and worked closely with the compliance office to support academic progress for basketball student-athletes.
Holt, who graduated with a journalism degree from Northeastern in 2011, served as the head senior manager for the men's basketball team as an undergrad and helped coordinate team video needs and team travel logistics. He received master's degrees in management of sports industries from New Haven in December 2013 and in educational administration from Nebraska in May 2022.
