RALEIGH – NC State women's soccer (5-4-1, 0-1-1 ACC) will wrap up a four-game road swing Sunday when it travels to Wake Forest (5-3-2, 0-1-1 ACC), who is currently receiving votes for this week's national poll. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Spry Stadium in Winston-Salem, N.C., and the match will be broadcast on the Regional Sports Networks (check local listings).
SERIES HISTORY
Sunday will be the 26th meeting in history between the programs, as the Demon Deacons own a 17-7-1 advantage in the all-time series.
Since 2013, head coach Tim Santoro's first season at the helm of the Wolfpack, the teams have met four times and have compiled a 2-2 record in that span. Three of those four contests have been held in Raleigh.
LAST TIME OUT
NC State traveled to No. 4 North Carolina on Thursday evening, and dropped a 1-0 decision. The Tar Heels scored an early goal in the second half, and despite finding four scoring opportunities the Wolfpack was unable to find the equalizer.
MENTOR AND MENTEE
For Santoro, he will be returning to his old stomping grounds Sunday as he served under Demon Deacons head coach Tony da Luz from 2008-12. Santoro was an assistant for his first three seasons, then was elevated to associate head coach his final two years with the program.
SCOUTING WAKE FOREST
The Demon Deacons are on a four-game streak without a win after facing four consecutive top 25 opponents. Wake Forest battled to a 1-1 draw with top-ranked Virginia, then suffered a 3-2 loss to No. 10 Duke at home to open up its ACC schedule.
Hulda Arnarsdottir paces the team with five goals and 11 points, while Hayley Younginer, Madison Hammond and Abby McNamara are also multi-goal scorers this year. Goalkeepers Meghan Kennedy and Mac Carmichael combined to allow just one goal in Wake's first six games of the season, and in its last four games the pair has allowed 11.
UP NEXT
NC State returns home Oct. 5 and will host Boston College in its annual Pink Match, benefitting breast cancer research. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Dail Soccer Stadium, and the match will be broadcast on the ACC Network Extra.
