WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Despite a 12-5 shot advantage and winning eight corners, the NC State women's soccer team's match against Wake Forest at Spry Stadium in Winston-Salem, N.C., on Sunday evening resulted in a 1-1 draw.
The Wolfpack picks up a point in ACC play and moves to 5-4-2 (0-1-2 ACC), while the Demon Deacons, who are currently receiving votes for the national poll, move to 5-3-3 (0-1-2 ACC) on the year.
King gave the Pack an early 1-0 lead in the 36th minute with her ninth goal of the season and 44th of her career. Walkling found King from the top of the 18-yard box, and King's strike from the top of the penalty box finished to the bottom right corner of the net.
King now owns 105 career points, and is one away from tying for third all-time in the record books.
Hayley Younginer netted the equalizer from close range in the 62nd minute for the Demon Deacons off of a passing combo with Estelle Laurier.
The first overtime period was quiet for both teams, while the final 10 minutes consisted of a combined four yellow cards between the squads. King was close to putting away the golden goal in the 104th minute with a long strike that hit the right post.
NC State returns to action Oct. 5 when it hosts Boston College in its annual Pink Match, benefitting breast cancer research. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Dail Soccer Stadium, and the match will be broadcast on the ACC Network Extra.
