
Women’s Soccer Continues Road Swing Thursday At #4 North Carolina

RALEIGH – NC State women's soccer (5-3-1, 0-0-1 ACC) will continue its four-game road swing Thursday when it makes another short trip to Chapel Hill, N.C., to face conference opponent No. 4 North Carolina (8-1-0, 1-0-0 ACC). Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at the UNC Soccer Stadium, and the contest will be broadcast on the ACC Network.
LAST TIME OUT
NC State battled to a 1-1 draw with No. 8 Duke on Sunday at Koskinen Stadium in Durham, N.C. It was the second consecutive year that a matchup between the Wolfpack and Blue Devils has resulted in a tie.
Tziarra King converted a penalty kick in the 63rd minute after Jameese Joseph drew a foul inside the 18', then Duke's Ella Stevens managed to find the equalizer in the 88th minute to force the match into overtime.
The Pack was dominant in both overtime periods, controlling possession for a majority of the 20 minutes and finding five scoring opportunities, but was unable to put away the golden goal.
SERIES HISTORY
Thursday will be the 50th all-time meeting between the Wolfpack and Tar Heels, as North Carolina owns a 45-2-2 advantage heading into the contest.
The last time the teams met was in the semifinals of the 2017 ACC Championship on Nov. 3 in Charleston, S.C., and the Tar Heels walked away with a 1-0 win thanks to a second half goal by Alessia Russo.
The last time the teams met in the regular season was on Sept. 16, 2016, in Chapel Hill, N.C. NC State won, 1-0, when Kia Rankin scored in the 67th minute off of a Paige Griffiths assist. It was the Pack's first-ever win on North Carolina's turf.

The Wolfpack is in the midst of a tough road swing that features a pair of conference opponents in the top 10 of the national rankings, along with a strong Wake Forest team that is receiving votes this week.
KING IS QUEEN
King has found her rhythm lately with a combined six goals in her last three outings. She has scored eight this year in as many games played, ranking second in goals scored and goals per game among the Atlantic Coast Conference. In the NCAA, she ranks sixth and 13th, respectively, in those categories.
She owns 43 career goals and 103 career points, which puts her by herself and third and fifth, respectively, all-time at NC State.
King additionally ranks second in points (20) points per game (2.50) among the league, and top six nationally in both offensive categories.
SCOUTING NORTH CAROLINA
The Tar Heels picked up a 3-0 win in its ACC opener at No. 20 Louisville on Saturday after suffering its first loss of the season at Arkansas on Sept. 15 (a 2-0 result).
Russo and Brianna Pinto pace the squad with six goals each, while five other players have scored multiple times this season. Goalkeepers Claudia Dickey and Marz Josephson have combined for eight shutouts this season, allowing just two goals apiece.
