RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State men's and women's cross country programs have released the schedule for the 2019 season, as announced by head coaches Rollie Geiger and Laurie Henes on Friday.
The Pack is set to open its 2019 slate at home when it hosts its annual adidas XC Challenge on Friday, Sept. 20. The meet, which is the only home meet of the season for NC State, will be held at the WakeMed Soccer Park Course in Cary, N.C.
NC State's runners will spend their second week of competition in South Bend, Ind., as they compete at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational on Friday, Oct. 4. The Wolfpack will then conclude its regular season with a pair of meets on Oct. 18 as it sends runners to the Nuttycombe Invitational in Madison, Wisc., and the Pirate Invitational in Greenville, N.C.
Postseason action kicks off at the 2019 ACC Cross Country Championships on Friday, Nov. 1. The conference meet will be hosted by Virginia Tech at the Buford Meredith Cross Country Course in Blacksburg, Va.
The Wolfpack women will enter the ACC Championships as reigning champions for the third-straight season after once again taking home the conference title in 2018.
Two weeks later, NC State is set to return to the state of Virginia for the 2019 NCAA Southeast Regional in Charlottesville. The race, which will be hosted by the Cavaliers at Panorama Farms, will take place on Friday, Nov. 15.
Last season, the Wolfpack swept the regional titles for the second time in three years and the fifth time since the 2000 season. NC State's women claimed their third regional title in a row, and the Pack men earned their first regional win since 2016. All of the Wolfpack's scorers for both the men and the women garnered All-Region honors as 10 runners finished in the top 25 across the two championship races.
The top two teams from the regional meet will receive automatic bids for the NCAA Championships, which are scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 23 in Terre Haute, Ind.
The Pack will look to continue its national success in 2019 after both programs closed out the 2018 season with top-15 national finishes. NC State's men finished 11th and the Wolfpack women finished 13th at the 2018 NCAA Championships, marking the first time since 2003 that both squads placed in the top 15 at the national meet.
