RALEIGH – No. 17 NC State women's soccer (1-1-0) will wrap up its road swing Friday when it travels to Monmouth (0-1-1). Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Hesse Field in West Long Branch, N.J., and the match will be broadcast on ESPN+ ($).
LAST TIME OUT
NC State picked up its first win of the season on Sunday afternoon at No. 7 Georgetown, 3-1. Despite the Hoyas scoring first, Toni Starova converted a penalty kick in the first half to knot the score and Tziarra King put away a pair of second half goals to seal the victory.
The win broke a 24-game unbeaten streak for the Hoyas at home. The win also marked the first time an opponent has scored more than one goal against Georgetown on its home turf since Oct. 28, 2016.
SCHEDULE CHANGE
Due to a late scheduling conflict, the team's match originally scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 1 at George Washington has been cancelled. A makeup date with another team is still to be determined.
SERIES HISTORY
Friday will be the third time in program history the teams have met, as the Wolfpack owns a 2-0-0 ledger in the all-time series. Last year, Monmouth traveled to Raleigh on Aug. 20 and Krissi Schuster scored a golden goal in double overtime to give the Pack the 1-0 win.
MOVING ON UP
NC State moved up in the latest United Soccer Coaches and TopDrawerSoccer rankings. It jumped four spots to 17th on United Soccer Coaches and one spot to 20th on TopDrawerSoccer.
HOMECOMING
Friday will be a homecoming for New Jersey natives Tziarra King and Margot Ridgeway. King's hometown of Sicklerville is roughly an hour and a half from West Long Branch, while Ridgeway's hometown of Fair Haven is approximately 20 minutes north.
UP NEXT
NC State will open up its home slate Sept. 5 when it welcomes Iowa to Dail Soccer Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and the match will be streamed on the ACC Network Extra.
SCOUTING MONMOUTH
In its first week of action, the Hawks suffered a 1-0 loss to Hofstra in its season opener on Aug. 23 then battled to a 0-0 (2OT) draw at Lehigh on Sunday.
Monmouth went 16-4-1 in the 2018 season, winning the MAAC regular season and tournament championship to earn its third consecutive automatic NCAA Tournament bid.
The Hawks were picked to win the MAAC again this year, while Madie Gibson was named the conference's preseason player of the year. Additionally, six others on the team were selected to the Preseason All-MAAC Team.
