Men’s Golf Named to 2018-19 GCAA Outstanding Team Academic Award list; Franken & Rhoades Named All-America Scholars

RALEIGH, NC – The 2018-19 NC State men's was named an All-Academic Team by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
To be eligible for the GCAA Outstanding Team Academic honors a college or university must submit GPAs for each player on their official squad list for the academic year and the cumulative GPA of the squad must be over 3.0.
In addition, former NC State men's golf team members Stephen Franken and Harrison Rhoades were both named 2018-19 Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars.
It's the second consecutive season that both golfers were named All-America Scholars. Franken and Rhoades exhausted their collegiate eligibility last season.
Franken leaves NC State as one of the most decorated players in program history. The Raleigh native exits as the program's all-time leader in career stroke average, finishing with a career stroke average of 71.06. He occupies the second (junior year), fourth (senior year) and fifth (sophomore year) spots on the Pack's single-single stroke average in program history.
He is the first player in program history to lead NC State in stroke average for four consecutive seasons.
The 2018 ACC Player of the Year and three-time All-ACC honoree finishes with 22 top-10 finishes and 35 top-20 finishes in his NC State career.
After transferring from Georgetown, Rhoades made an immediate impact for the Pack, appearing in almost every tournament for NC State in his three years with the program. He made the ACC Honor Roll and ACC All-Academic team all three years with NC State.
To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically in Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their Associate's Degree and in there last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
