
Trent Hidlay Will Wrestle for Bronze at Junior World Championships

Pack’s R-Fr. won first three bouts before falling to Russia in semifinals
TALLINN, ESTONIA – NC State Wrestling's R-Fr. Hayden Hidlay has advanced to the bronze medal bout at the 2019 Junior World Championships being held in Estonia. Hidlay started his day 3-0, outscoring those foes 26-1, but fell 4-3 to Russia in the semifinals.
Hidlay will face Miriani Maisuradze of Georgia in tomorrow's bronze medal bout.
• Semifinals
Hidlay fell in the semifinals to Russia's Alik Shebzukhov, the 2017 Junior European Champion. Hidlay scored the lone point of the first of a shot clock violation. Shebzukhov came back to get a takedown to start the second for the 2-1 lead. Hidlay was in close to his own takedown, but Russia countered and got a push out for a point, and a USA challenge was denied so the score went to 4-1. Hidlay closed the gap with a takedown to 4-3 with 24 seconds left, but could not get a final point.
• Quarterfinals
Hidlay advanced to the semifinals with a 6-1 win over Iran's Sajjad Habibiehsani. He scored a pair of takedowns in the first to take a 4-0 lead at the break. After giving up a push out to close the score to 4-1, Hidlay scored the final takedown with 20 seconds left.
• Second Round
Hidlay went back-to-back tech falls with a 10-0 win over Ukraine's Demid Karachenko in the second round. Hidlay jumped out to a 7-0 lead at the break, and after a push out made it 8-0, he scored the final takedown 40 seconds into the second period.
• First Round
Hidlay's tournament opened with a 10-0 tech over China's Teng Zhao. After a takedown just six seconds into the bout, Hidlay scored two gut wrenches to jump out to a 6-0 lead. A second takedown pushed the score to 8-0, and the final takedown ended the bout early just 2:10 into it.
