Big Ten/ACC Softball Challenge Returns to Raleigh

GREENSBORO, N.C. – For the fifth consecutive year, NC State will participate as a host site in the 2020 Big Ten/ACC Softball Challenge, as announced by the league Tuesday morning. The Wolfpack will face off against Illinois and Ohio State, with Notre Dame also traveling to Dail Softball Stadium. Exact game dates and times, as well as television and online coverage, will be announced at a later date.
NC State compiled 31 wins in 2019, the first season under the guidance of Jennifer Patrick-Swift, the most for the team in a single season since 2015.
Ohio State finished the 2019 season with a 35-18 record and a 17-6 mark in Big Ten play. The Buckeyes received votes in both the final USA Today/NFCA Coaches and the ESPN.com/USA Softball polls. In 2019, Ohio State secured their fourth-straight NCAA Tournament bid and 11th overall appearance.
Illinois advanced to its third NCAA Tournament in the last four years before concluding the 2019 season with a 33-25 record. The Illini went 9-14 in Big Ten play and had four wins over nationally ranked teams.
The fifth annual event will take place Feb. 14-16, 2020, and has been expanded to feature 10 schools from each conference, with each program playing four games each at five campus sites.
The ACC and Big Ten are 70-70 since the tournament's inception in 2016, with the ACC winning the Challenge in 2017 and 2018.
