RALEIGH – NC State softball head coach Jennifer Patrick-Swift has announced the addition of Carson Shaner to the Wolfpack for the 2020 season.
Shaner joins the Wolfpack following two seasons at UNCW and will have two years of eligibility remaining. She played in 32 games as a sophomore, including 21 starts in the outfield. Shaner led the Seawhawks with a .307 batting average and a .600 slugging percentage while her six home runs tied for second on the team.
"Carson has a pure lefty swing that can send the ball a long way," said Patrick-Swift. "She gets after it in the box and goes up with the mindset that she is not going to be cheated. You can feel her passion and desire to put on the Wolfpack uniform. She is another player that steps in with two years of quality experience."
The Moncure, N.C. native saw a significant improvement between her freshman and sophomore seasons, doubling her batting average and recording an additional 17 hits.
In high school, Shaner was a four-year starter who guided Northwood to a 74-18 record and was a four-time All-District and All-State honoree. She finished her career as the program's all-time leader with 16 home runs, including a school-record eight as a senior, in addition to single-season records for hits, runs batted in, batting average and triples.
