GWANGJU, South Korea – In her first-ever appearance at the FINA World Championships, NC State women's swimming alumna Hannah Moore secured a bronze medal in the women's open water 5K on Tuesday evening.
Moore was the top finisher for Team USA as a pair of Americans finished inside the top 10.
After maintaining a spot among the top 25 swimmers for the majority of the race, Moore found herself in 24th place heading into the final lap. She worked her way up the ranks in the final stretch of the race and found herself as part of a group of four swimmers who surged toward the finish line looking to secure the third-place finish.
Moore and Germany's Leonie Beck ultimately touched at the same time (57:58.0) for a joint bronze medal.
The Cary, N.C., native secured her spot at the World Championships by finishing third overall at the 2019 Open Water Nationals in May. It marked her first-ever selection to a World Championships team.
Moore is set to represent Team USA on Wednesday evening in the mixed 5K team relay. That race is set for a 7 p.m. ET start.
