RALEIGH – NC State softball head coach Jennifer Patrick-Swift announced the addition of transfer Samantha Sack to the program on Thursday.
Sack comes to Raleigh after spending two seasons at Coastal Carolina. The catcher NC State's squad with two remaining years of eligibility.
"Sam is coming in with a lot of in-game experience behind the plate," said Patrick-Swift. "Her ability to control the running game is one thing that really stands out. We could tell early in our conversations that she has the desire to work hard and wants to help NC State win games. Sam brings catching maturity and savviness behind the plate that our pitchers will love to throw to."
Sack earned the starting nod in 92 games over the past two seasons at Coastal Carolina, ranking second on the team in putouts in both 2018 and 2019. The 2019 campaign saw Sack catch 16 runners stealing in 27 attempts (59.3% caught stealing percentage), and she was charged with only one passed ball in 44 appearances during her sophomore season.
The Barrington, N.J., native committed just two errors on the year during her rookie season in 2018, and Sack has been credited with just seven total errors in 488 chances during the first two seasons of her career.
Offensively, the catcher has compiled a .215 career batting average as a member of the Chanticleer roster. Sack collected 21 hits during the 2019 season, including four doubles and five home runs. In 2018, she batted in 16 runs for the Chanticleers, including a pair of four-RBI games.
Sack also impressed in the classroom, as she was named a 2017-18 NFCA Academic All-American for posting a GPA better than 3.50 during her freshman year.
