2019 ACC OVERVIEW:
NC State ended the regular season with a 29-26 overall record and a 9-15 clip in conference play. The team's berth to the conference tournament in 2019 marks its 14th overall appearance at the ACC Softball Championship and its first since the 2017 season.
The Pack picked up wins in three of its ACC series – at Boston College, at Duke and at home against Louisville. After not winning a conference series during the 2018 season, NC State's first series win of the season at Boston College on March 31 was its first since April 7-9, 2017 when the Pack took its series at Georgia Tech, 2-1.
LAST TIME OUT:
The Wolfpack made a statement in its final series of the regular season as it swept Louisville at home. It marked the Pack's first ACC series sweep since March 17-19, 2-17 when it took three games over Virginia. The wins also made NC State the first team to sweep the Cardinals during the 2019 season.
The Pack held strong for a 4-3 win over the Cardinals in the series opener as it hit a pair of two-run home runs to seal the victory. Devin Wallace pitched a complete game after retiring the first nine batters that she faced in the outing.
Game two of the series extended into extra innings where April Visser hit a walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the 11th to clinch the series. Visser also went on to bat in the game-winning walk-off run in the series finale to secure NC State's sweep.
Kama Woodall also impressed in the series as she pitched 4.2 shutout innings in relief and only allowed one base runner to close out the Pack's game two and three wins.
HOME RUN MINDSET:
NC State hit four home runs in its weekend series against Louisville, which moved its total to 63 long balls on the year and bettered its single-season number that ranks sixth in program history. The Pack ranks third in the ACC and 20th in the nation in home runs heading into the postseason.
Brigette Nordberg leads the squad with 16 homers during the 2019 campaign which ranks third in the conference and tied for 25th nationally.
Ten different Wolfpack batters have hit at least one home run this season, and the Pack has hit multiple home runs in 16 games on the season with a 13-3 record in those games.
SAM'S STEALS:
With four steals in the weekend series against the Cardinals, Sam Russ took sole ownership of the program record for single-season steals with 31 on the year. That number ranks third in the ACC and 30th nationally this season.
NO TROUBLE WITH DOUBLE:
The Pack has successfully turned 24 double plays during the 2019 season, which ranks in a tie for second in the single-season record book and is second in the league this year.
SCOUTING SYRACUSE:
The Orange enters the ACC Softball Championship as the No. 9 seed after most recently getting swept by the No. 2 seed and defending national champion Florida State. Syracuse owns a 21-31 record on the year and posted an 8-16 mark in ACC action.
Syracuse bats .262 as a team, and two members of the Orange's lineup are hitting above .300 as Alicia Hansen (.329) and Gabby Teran (.323) rank atop the team in batting average. Teran leads the team in runs (37) and hits (52), while Hansen owns a team-best 34 RBIs.
