RALEIGH, N.C. – Reynolds Coliseum, the home of the NC State Wolfpack wrestling team, will serve as host for the 2019 World Team Trials this weekend. In action will be three current members of 2019-20 Wolfpack squad and six additional athletes that currently train at the Wolfpack's RTC.

The World Team Trials Challenge Tournament will feature top Olympic hopefuls in the three Olympic disciplines of men's freestyle, Greco-Roman and women's freestyle. The nation's best wrestlers who are age 17-20 in men's freestyle will compete at the UWW Junior Freestyle World Team Trials.

These will be the first major USA Wrestling competitions held on the campus of NC State.

On the senior level, top honors this weekend advances each wrestler to one of the two Final X events which determines the World Team. For the juniors, the winners earn their spot for the Junior World Championships. The 2019 World Wrestling Championships will be in Kazakhstan September 14-22 and the 2019 Junior World Championships will be in Estonia August 12-18.

Three current NC State wrestlers in action:
• Hayden Hidlay – Senior Freestyle, 70 kg
- Hidlay qualified after he represented the U.S. at the U23 World Championships this past November. As a R-So. this past season, Hidlay earned All-American honors for the second straight season with a fourth place finish at 157 pounds.
- Hidlay qualified after he claimed top honors at the U.S. Open. He will not wrestle in the challenge tournament, as he sits in the best two-of-three finals. Hidlay redshirted this past season as a freshman, and went 24-2 at both 174 and 184 pounds. He won five tournaments, and placed fourth at the Southern Scuffle.
- Trombley qualified after he placed sixth at the U.S. Open. Trombley redshirted this past season as a freshman, going 20-6 and winning a pair of tournaments.
Six current athletes who train at the Wolfpack's RTC in action:
• Sean Fausz – Senior Freestyle, 61 kg
- Fausz qualified after he represented the U.S. at the U23 World Championships this past November.
- Gantt qualified after he was the runner-up at the U.S. Open.
- Davis qualified after he placed sixth at the U.S. Open.
- Macchiavello qualified after he placed third at the U.S. Open.
- McCall qualified after he placed seventh at the U.S. Open.
- Boykin qualified after he reached the semifinals and eventually placed sixth at the U.S. Open.
Nick Gwiazdowski will not be in action at the World Team Trials, as he already has qualified for Final X because he is a returning World Medalist – earning Bronze in back-to-back years in 2017 and 2018. Gwiazdowski will face the winner of the 125 kg weight class at Final X at Rutgers on June 8.

In addition to the nine current members of the Wolfpack Wrestling Club in action this weekend, another pair of former NC State wrestlers will also be making their return to Reynolds Coliseum.

Joe DeAngelo competed for the Pack at 125 pounds from 2013-15, and will wrestle at 55 kg in Greco-Roman after placing seventh at the U.S. Open. DeAngelo is currently an assistant coach at Army. Former Wolfpack heavyweight Mike Kosoy (2013-17) currently trains at Arizona State, and will wrestle at 125 kg in freestyle. Kosoy qualified for the WTT after his placement at the 2019 Dave Schultz Memorial International.

Both the World Team Trials Challenge Tournament and the UWW Junior Freestyle World Team Trials will be broadcast live by FloWrestling.
