TEMPE, Ariz. – The NC State women's tennis team maintains its No. 12 ranking in the latest Oracle/ITA Division I Rankings. Holding a 22-6 record, the Pack looks to improve on that mark this weekend as it opens play at the 2019 NCAA Championships against VCU.
In doubles, Anna Rogers and Smith are the seventh-ranked duo, tying Rogers and Claudia Wiktorin and Sanaa Bhambri and Sandhya Nagaraj for the highest doubles ranking in program history. They were selected as a top-eight seed in the doubles draw for the NCAA Championships, automatically garnering All-American honors. Rogers and Smith have combined for a 30-5 record this season, including a 20-4 record in dual season on court one.
The squad has put together a historic season, earning a bid to host the NCAA Championships first and second rounds for the first time in program history. NC State also set new program-bests for total wins and ACC wins.
Rogers checks in at No. 10 in the rankings. The junior received an at-large bid to compete in the singles draw of the NCAA Championships. As a top-16 seed, Rogers automatically qualifies for All-American status.
Alana Smith is ranked 71st in latest edition, moving up two spots from 73rd. The freshman has collected five wins over nationally ranked opponents so far in her 2019 campaign.
The No. 12 Pack is set to compete against VCU on Saturday, May 4 at 4 p.m. in the opening round of the 2019 NCAA Championships at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center on NC State's campus.
