Additional promotions:
LAST TIME OUT:
The Wolfpack defeated Duke, 4-1, on Wednesday for its first win over the Blue Devils since April 1, 1980. It marked only the third time in program history that NC State has defeated Duke, and it also gave the Pack its seventh ACC win of the season, the most conference wins in a single season in program history.
NC State picked up the doubles point with wins on a pair of courts and went on to tally three singles wins in straight sets to secure the statement win over the Blue Devils.
PACK IN THE POLLS:
NC State maintained its spot in the top 25 of the national team rankings as it checked in at No. 22 in the latest release of the Oracle/ITA poll. The team has been ranked in the top 25 for nine weeks this season, and its current ranking marks its third week in a row in the top 25.
Alexis Galarneau was tabbed No. 23 in the singles rankings, marking the fourth set of rankings in a row that the Wolfpack junior has been featured in the top 25. Six of his 14 singles victories on the season have come against ranked opponents.
Galarneau and Michael Ogden continued to make a rise in the doubles standings as they earned a season-best No. 44 ranking.
DOMINANCE IN DOUBLES:
The Pack has continued to find strength in its doubles play during the 2019 dual match season. NC State has won 17 of its 24 doubles points contested on the year, and the Wolfpack owns an impressive 15-2 record in matches during which it clinched the doubles point.
SCOUTING THE HURRICANES:
Miami enters the matchup with a 16-7 overall record, including a 7-3 mark in ACC matches. The Hurricanes have been ranked in the top 25 for four consecutive weeks and currently check in at No. 25 as a team.
Sophomores Adria Soriano Barrera (No. 55) and Bojan Jankulovski (No. 81) hold down the fort for the Hurricanes in the singles rankings, and Miami does not have a ranked doubles pair.
The Hurricanes hold the overall lead in the series between the two teams, but NC State has won four of its last five matchups against Miami. The squads last met on April 26, 2018 to open the 2018 ACC Championships, and the Pack came away with the 4-1 victory in that match to advance to the quarterfinals.
UP NEXT:
NC State will await results from around the league to learn its final conference standing headed into the postseason. The Pack is set to head to Cary, N.C. for the 2019 ACC Championships, which runs April 17-21 at the Cary Tennis Park.
