Kiara Leslie Selected 10th Overall in 2019 WNBA Draft

Graduate guard averaged 14.3 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game in 69 appearances at NC State

NEW YORK – Graduate guard Kiara Leslie of the ninth-ranked NC State women's basketball team (28-6) became the 16th student-athlete in program history to be chosen in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) Draft Wednesday evening.
With the 10th overall pick in the first round of this year's draft, the Washington Mystics selected NC State's 2019 All-ACC First Team honoree and Holly Springs, N.C., native.
Leslie becomes the third Wolfpack basketball player to be chosen in the draft since head coach Wes Moore took over the program ahead of the 2013-14 season. In the 2014 WNBA Draft, Markeisha Gatling (first round, 10th overall) and Kody Burke (third round, 32nd overall) were selected by the Chicago Sky and Washington Mystics, respectively.
She is the 16th Wolfpack player selected in the WNBA Draft in program history and the fourth selected in the first round.
Leslie had a terrific 2018-19 season en route to helping the Wolfpack to a 28-6 record, a second straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16, and the longest winning streak (21 games) and best start to a season (21-0) in NC State's program history. The Holly Springs, N.C., native led the team in scoring with 15.9 points per game while also averaging 7.2 rebounds per contest. Leslie scored 10+ points in a single game on 31 occasions, 20+ points in a single game nine times, and 30+ points in a single game twice. She also recorded 10 double-doubles during the course of the season. For her stellar season, Leslie was also named a WBCA All-American Regional Finalist, an AP All-American Honorable Mention, First Team All-ACC, and to the All-ACC Defensive Team.
During two seasons with the Wolfpack after transferring from Maryland, Leslie played in 69 total games and earned 61 starts. She averaged 31.8 minutes, 14.3 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per contest while shooting 361-of-870 (.415) from the field, 108-of-301 (.359) from three-point range, and 156-of-218 (.716) from the free-throw line.
