Gymnastics Garners EAGL Annual Awards

BALTIMORE, Md. -- The NC State gymnastics team was awarded four East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) annual awards, as announced by the conference.

Scholar-Athlete of the Year: Maggie Tamburro
As an experienced veteran, Maggie Tamburro has steadied the Pack on bars this season. She is a senior this year, who for the second year in a row is a main contributor to the bar lineup. Limited by injury, she continues to embrace her role.

She has excelled in all areas as a successful gymnast and student, along with balancing medical school applications and interviews.

Tamburro was named to the First Team All-EAGL team this season on bars and earned her fourth All-EAGL Scholastic Team accolade. Leading the team on bars with a 9.900 at Towson, she tied her career high. The senior has collected seven podium finishes this season, the most of her career, and more than her previous seasons combined.

Competing on bars in every meet this regular season, Tamburro recorded six bars performances of 9.800+.

Senior of the Year: Caitlyn Fillard
Displaying a balanced attack this season, Caitlyn Fillard has competed in the all-around in every meet. She was named to first team all-conference in bars and all-around and second team all-conference on vault and beam.

Five of Fillard's six best all-around performances were against EAGL competition, and in all five of those meets, she crossed the 39.000+ threshold. The senior earned a spot on the podium in all-around competition in 10 meets.

Collecting more than her previous three seasons combined, Fillard recorded 17 podium finishes: seven first-place, seven second-place, and three third-place finishes.

Co-Head Coach of the Year: Kim Landrus
Landrus has guided the 2019 Wolfpack to an impressive season after losing four seniors from the 2018 EAGL Championship team. Landrus' squad tallied 20 All-EAGL honors this season, the most in the conference and the most for the program since 2008.

NC State held the top spot in the EAGL eight out of 11 weeks of the 2019 season, and the team crossed the 196.000+ threshold two times (196.400 and 196.100).

Landrus guided the Pack gymnasts to 10 scores of 9.900+ this season and Drew Grantham to a top-10 all-around score in school history (39.475 – tied ninth).

Assistant Coaches of the Year: Philip Ogletree and Bob Starkell
Philip Ogletree and Bob Starkell continued to be an integral success of the team in 2019.

Ogletree guides the Pack gymnasts on vault and floor. On floor, the team has posted five 49.000+ scores through the regular season, including a high of 49.225 against Pitt. The team has earned five floor titles and 18 podium placements competing on floor. Throughout the season, six gymnasts have set or tied career-bests on floor.

On vault, Ogletree has guided the team to two performances of 49.000+ this season, totaling 10 vault titles and 24 podium placements. Over the course of the season, four Pack gymnasts have set or tied career-bests on vault.

Starkell guides gymnasts on bars, and the team has collected nine titles and 24 podium placements on the event. Three gymnasts have set or tied career-best scores on bars this season. The team posted a 49.200 on bars this season, a top-20 score in program history.
