SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The 30th-ranked NC State men's tennis team concluded its weekend of ACC road matches with a perfect 2-0 record as it blanked No. 14 Notre Dame, 5-0, Sunday afternoon. The victory was the Pack's third over a ranked opponent and second top-15 win of the season.
NC State improves to 13-7 (4-2 ACC), and the Fighting Irish fall to 10-10 (3-4 ACC).
"This was a really good road trip for us," said head coach Kyle Spencer. "Boston College played well on Friday, and it's always a challenge in that building. Today was a tough battle, as it always is with Notre Dame. They are so well-coached, but our guys came out with passion, and we were together, fighting hard. It's never easy to play on the road in the ACC, but the guys did a fantastic job of focusing on what they needed to do in their respective matches. Now, we turn our attention to getting ready for Florida State at home on Friday. Pack Risin'!"
The Pack maintained its strength in doubles action as it extended its doubles point winning streak to five with wins on courts one and three.
57th-ranked Alexis Galarneau and Michael Ogden cruised past Notre Dame's Grayson Broadus and Matt Gamble, defeating the Fighting Irish duo by a 6-1 score on the top court. Ivan Saveljic and Yannai Barkai added a 6-2 win over Paul Gota and Axel Nefve to give NC State the 1-0 lead in the match.
Galarneau picked up his second singles win of the weekend to extend the Pack's lead in the match as he defeated Nefve 6-4, 6-1.
Robert Turzak added a straight sets win on court four to put NC State a match away from the clinch. The Wolfpack freshman beat William Howells 6-4, 6-3.
NC State went on to add a pair of back-to-back wins to clinch the match and put the final score at 5-0. Georgiy Malyshev picked up the Pack's fourth team point with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Broadus, and Ivan capped off the match with the 7-6, 6-2 win over Gota.
