Pate Collects Gold on First Day at Black and Gold Challenge

ORLANDO, Fla. – The NC State track and field team opened its outdoor season on Friday at the Black and Gold Challenge. Janel Pate collected the Pack's first gold-medal finish of the season in women's long jump.
Jumps: Pate was crowned women's long jump champion with a 19'8.75" (6.01m) mark. Pate's performance on Friday is fourth-best in program history and outperforms the ACC qualifying mark (5.84m).
Michelle Cobb rounded out the top-five finishes in the event for the Pack with an 18'9.25" (5.72m) jump, which is also good for a top-10 mark in the NC State record books.
Throws: Timara Chapman led the way for the Pack in women's javelin throw, posting a 71'6" (21.81m) mark in her outdoor season debut.
Grace Gaudin recorded a 145'6" (44.35m) mark in hammer throw.
