Drew Grantham Earns Gymnast of the Week, Alexa Phillips Earns Specialist of the Week
BALTIMORE, Md. – Following the 27th-ranked NC State gymnastics team's second-best performance of the year, Drew Grantham has been named EAGL Gymnast of the Week and Alexa Phillips has been named EAGL Co-Specialist of the Week, as announced by the conference Tuesday.
Grantham's and Alexa Phillips' performances contributed to the Pack's 196.100 in a quad-meet with No. 31 Arizona, No. 36 George Washington, and Texas Woman's University. NC State took first-place honors.
The announcement marks Grantham's third EAGL Gymnast of the Week accolade this season, the second-most in the conference, trailing only Danielle Mulligan (UNH), who has won four times.
Grantham posted a career-best 39.475 in all-around competition in the Pack's home finale Saturday. score sits in the top-10 in program history. The Durham, N.C., native claimed the all-around title, and her career-best performance on beam (9.900) also earned her the event title. With scores of 9.900 on vault and 9.800 on bars, Grantham tied for first and second place respectively. The junior rounded out her performance with a second-place tie on floor, posting a 9.875.
In her final home meet, Alexa Phillips recorded her first 9.900 of the season on floor, tying her career high. Phillips' performance earned her the floor title Saturday night. The senior also contributed to NC State's scoring on vault with a 9.825.
The team will conclude regular season competition on Sun., March 17 at 2 p.m. in a quad-meet at No. 28 West Virginia with No. 22 Ohio State and No. 24 Penn State.
