Pack Falls at Third-Ranked Texas

AUSTIN, Texas – The 35th-ranked NC State men's tennis team fell to No. 3 Texas, 6-0, on the road Sunday afternoon.
With the loss, the Pack falls to 10-5 on the season while the Longhorns improve to 14-1.
"Good battle from the team, but Texas was too good today," said head coach Kyle Spencer. "We will get back to Raleigh tonight and prepared to battle Virginia on Friday. We are looking for Wolfpack Nation to come out in full force at the Cary Tennis Park on Friday evening. Pack Risin'!"
Due to weather concerns, the afternoon's match started with singles competition, and Texas picked up its first four team points with straight-sets wins. Singles action was played out, but doubles was not contested.
In a ranked matchup on the top singles court, fourth-ranked Christian Sigsgaard of Texas defeated No. 25 Alexis Galarneau 6-3, 6-1 to put the Longhorns on the board. It was just the third singles loss on the season for Galarneau.
Texas' 49th-ranked Harrison Scott added a 6-4, 6-0 win over Yannai Barkai, and Rodrigo Banzer put the Longhorns a match away from the clinch with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Georgiy Malyshev.
The match was clinched on court two as Texas' ninth-ranked Yuya Ito bested Igor Saveljic 7-6 (6), 6-4 to give the Longhorns the win.
Play continued on the remaining singles courts, which both extended into third sets. Leonardo Telles added to the count for Texas with a 6-7 (5), 6-3, 1-0 (2) win over Tadas Babelis, and Colin Markes gave Texas a sweep of the singles courts with a 5-7, 6-1, 6-3 victory over Robert Turzak.
UP NEXT:
NC State returns home next weekend for a pair of ACC matches. The Pack is set to host Virginia on Friday, March 15 at the Cary Tennis Park and will be back at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center on Sunday, March 17 to take on Louisville.
