#9 Wolfpack Narrowly Falls at #24 Florida State

NC State out-rebounds the Seminoles 44-30 and scores 18 second-chance points in defeat

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The ninth-ranked NC State women's basketball team (21-2, 8-2 ACC) narrowly fell in its first top-25 road contest of the season on Thursday night, losing at No. 24/19 Florida State by a final score of 75-70.
In a thrilling back-and-forth affair that featured eight ties and nine lead changes, the Wolfpack trailed by one point (29-28) at halftime and outscored the Seminoles 22-21 in the third quarter to pull the game level at 50-50 heading into the final 10 minutes.
NC State took a 60-56 lead with 6:51 remaining when Aislinn Konig hit a corner three on an assist from teammate Kiara Leslie. The Wolfpack held onto this lead until a jumper by Nausia Woolfork gave the hosts a 66-65 advantage with 2:37 to play. Florida State extended this lead out to seven points, but NC State fought back, ultimately pulling within two when Kai Crutchfield hit a three-pointer to shrink the Seminoles' advantage to 72-70 with just 44 seconds to play. Florida State hit two free throws on its next possession and was able to force the Wolfpack into a turnover before sinking one more free throw to bring the contest to its final score.
Wolfpack freshman Elissa Cunane led all players with a career-high 25 points on 10-19 shooting while also adding eight rebounds. She was joined in double figures by DD Rogers (11 points), Kiara Leslie (11), and Crutchfield (10). Rogers grabbed a game-high 17 rebounds to record the second double-double of her career.
Woolfork (22 points) and Nicki Ekhomu (20) led the Seminoles on the offensive end. Ekhomu led all players with six assists on an evening when Florida State committed just eight turnovers while forcing NC State into 16. The Seminoles scored 23 points from these Wolfpack miscues.
