Stephen Franken leads NC State with a fourth place finish

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, FLA. – The NC State men's golf team opened the spring season with a fifth-place finish at the Sea Best Invitational held on the Dye's Valley Course at TPC Sawgrass.
Reigning ACC Player of the Year Stephen Franken led the Pack with a fourth place finish. After shooting a 72 in the first round, the Raleigh native shot two-under-par 68 in the second and third round to finish with an overall score of two-under-par, 208.
The fourth place finish the 15th top-five finish of Franken's collegiate career.
Christian Salzer was next for the Pack with a 21st place finish. The Sumter, S.C. native shot a 74 on Tuesday to finish with a three-day score or four-over-par, 214.
Benjamin Shipp finished one shot back of Salzer in a tie for 25th place. Shipp was the Pack's two-round leader, but shot a 76 on Tuesday to finish the tournament with a score of five-over-par, 215.
Easton Paxton finished in a tie for 50th place. The NC State sophomore rebounded from a poor first round to shoot a 69 and 72 in the final two rounds of the tournament to finish with a score of 11-over-par, 221.
Justin Hood rounded out the NC State lineup in 68th place. The St. Matthews, S.C., native finished with a scorecard of 76-57-76 for a total of 227.
Competing as an individual, Harrison Rhoades finished in a tie for 50th place with a three-day score of eight-over-par, 218.
The Pack returns to action Sunday, Feb. 17 when it competes in the Puerto Rico Classic hosted by Purdue in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
