NC State sweeps conference awards for third straight week
GREENSBORO, N.C. – NC State junior Ky-lee Perry and Wolfpack sophomore Eric Knowles were named ACC Swimmers of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
It marks the third week in a row that the Pack has swept the weekly conference awards. Perry was honored as ACC Women's Swimmer of the Week for the first time in her career, while Knowles garnered ACC Men's Swimmer of the Week honors for the second straight week.
Perry continued to prove herself as one of the best female sprinters in the conference as she secured first-place finishes in a pair of individual events against No. 1 Texas and Arizona. She topped the podium in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.99 and also took first in the 100-yard freestyle in 48.24, both NCAA provisional marks.
Perry has displayed her dominance in those freestyle events throughout the entirety of the 2018-19 season. The Norwalk, Conn. native currently owns the ACC's top time in the 50-yard freestyle, a 21.80 that she clocked at the Indiana Invitational, and ranks among the national top 10 in both events. Perry did not lose a 50-yard or 100-yard freestyle event in any of the Wolfpack's dual meets or tri-meets this season.
Knowles, who is from Dayton, Ohio, won the 1000-yard freestyle race on the way to helping the Wolfpack men defeat No. 2 Texas and No. 15 Arizona. The Wolfpack sophomore touched the wall in 9:02.54 on the way to taking first place in the event for the second meet in a row. He also went on to place on the podium in the 400-yard individual medley, clocking in at 3:53.99 for second place.
The Pack will turn its attention to postseason competition as it prepares for the 2019 ACC Swimming & Diving Championships in Greensboro, N.C. The women's swimming and diving and men's diving competition is set for Feb. 20-23, and the men's swimming meet will run Feb. 27 to March 2 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
