GREENSBORO, N.C. – Thanks to a strong weekend at the plate that featured three home runs in a single game, junior outfielder Brigette Nordberg of the NC State softball team was named ACC Co-Player of the Week as announced on Tuesday by the league office.
She tabbed the honor with Florida State's Cali Harrod, as the Exton, Pa., native is the first Wolfpack player to earn a weekly award from the Atlantic Coast Conference since Molly Hutchison on March 7, 2016.
Nordberg compiled a .625 batting average with five hits, four runs and eight runs batted in, helping her team go 3-0 in the Fairfield Inn & Suites Crabtree Invitational. The Pack earned a 2-1 win over UMBC as well as a pair of run-rule wins against Murray State.
In the team's 10-1 (5) win over the Racers on Monday, Nordberg hit three home runs in the outing. She is the second player in program history to accomplish the feat, as Hutchison set the record on April 8, 2017, at Georgia Tech. She also tallied 12 total bases, which were the most in a game since Tyler Ross had 11 on April 21, 2017, at Pittsburgh.
Nordberg currently leads the team and ACC with six home runs and ranks T8th this week among the NCAA in the category.
The Pack returns to action Wednesday at Charlotte for its first midweek game of the season. First pitch is 4 p.m. at the Sue M. Daughtridge Stadium and the contest will be streamed on C-USA TV.
