No. 29 NC State Falls to No. 26 Tennessee

RALEIGH, N.C. – The 29th-ranked NC State men's tennis team dropped a competitive match to No. 26 Tennessee as it battled but ultimately fell 4-1 to the Volunteers.

With the loss the Pack falls to 7-3 on the season while the Volunteers improve to 7-1.

"It was a tough match today," said head coach Kyle Spencer. "I thought Tennessee played well. I would've loved to see the guys come out with a little bit more passion in the doubles, but credit goes to Tennessee for playing a good match. Now, we get ready for Virginia Tech on Sunday and look forward to another battle."

The two teams matched up in a tight doubles point to open the match, but the Volunteers took wins on courts two and three to jump out to an early lead.

NC State's 43rd-ranked Alexis Galarneau picked up his third ranked win of the season as he won his match over No. 113 Timo Stodder. Galarneau took care of Stodder in straight sets, winning 6-3, 6-3.

The Pack managed to keep its matches close across the board, and junior Igor Saveljic forced a deciding third set after dropping his first set, but Tennessee was able to pick up three wins in singles action to clinch the match.

UP NEXT:
NC State will turn around to play at home again on Sunday as it hosts a doubleheader at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center. The Pack will open ACC action against Virginia Tech at 1 p.m. and will play host to North Carolina Central at 5 p.m.
