
Shipp Wins South Beach International Amateur

Annual event in Miami Beach is one of top amateur events in the world
NC State men's senior golfer Benjamin Shipp won the South Beach International Amateur played at the Miami Beach Golf Club this past weekend.
The Duluth, Ga., native entered the final round four shots off the lead, but sollid play on Sunday brought him back into contention and he was ultimately able to force a playoff. On the third hole of the playoff, Shipp clinched the tournament, edging Oklahoma senior Garrett Reband.
The SBIA field of 210 players includeed 162 "Top 1,000" players and 16 "Top 100" ranked players in the world. Overall this year's field featured 104 international players from 31 countries, making the SBIA the second largest international tournament in the world, only to be exceeded by the British Amateur.
Shipp entered his senior season at NC State ranked fourth on the program's all-time stroke average chart with a career average of 71.66. The 2019 All-ACC team member had an average round score of 71.06 last season. in four tournaments this season, Shipp has a stroke average of 70.64 and has finished in the top-10 in two tournaments, including a runner-up finish at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate in October.
