Women’s Soccer Places Program-Best Five On 2019 All-ACC Teams

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The NC State women's soccer team had five players earn a spot on the 2019 All-ACC Teams, as announced by the league office on Thursday. Tziarra King was selected to the first team, while Lulu Guttenberger, Krissi Schuster and Ricci Walkling were named to the third team. Additionally, Jameese Joseph garnered all-freshman team accolades.
The five selections are the most in program history in a single season.
"It's great for the program to get five players honored and all five deserved the accolades in some way. A few could've been on a higher team but we'll take it," said head coach Tim Santoro.
King becomes the second player in program history to be a four-time All-ACC selection behind Thori Staples Bryan (1992-95). With 18 starts on the season, King leads the conference with 32 points and is second overall with 13 goals. The Sicklerville, N.J., native additionally ranks third all-time at NC State with 115 points and 48 goals in her career.
Germany natives Guttenberger and Schuster have started all 19 matches this season at center back and left back, respectively, and have been critical in the team's five shutout wins. Guttenberger has scored two goals and tallied four assists, while Schuster has scored three goals and recorded two assists.
This is Schuster's first All-ACC award in her career, while it is Guttenberger's second in as many seasons of action. Guttenberger missed the 2018 season due to injury, but was honored on the all-freshman team in 2017.
For Walkling, who also hails from Germany, this is her third honor in as many years. She is one of the team's six multi-goal scorers with two, and has started every contest this season in the midfield. She leads the team with eight assists, which are the fourth most among the league.
Joseph is the fourth player in as many years to earn a spot on the all-freshman team. A Beltsville, Md., native, she is the only freshman on the team to start every contest, and has racked up three goals and three assists in her rookie campaign.
NC State continues ACC Championship action Friday when it faces top-seeded North Carolina in the semifinal round at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m., and the contest will be broadcast on the ACC Network.
