#12 Wolfpack Begins Rainbow Wahine Showdown Friday vs. Longhorns

HONOLULU – Off to its seventh consecutive 5-0 start to a season, the 12th-ranked NC State women's basketball team begins play at the 2019 Rainbow Wahine Showdown on Friday against Texas. Tip-off between the Wolfpack and Longhorns is scheduled for 2:30 pm local (7:30 pm ET) from the Stan Sherriff Center on the campus of the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

Following the game against Texas, NC State will play tournament host Hawaii (Nov. 30 at 2:30 pm local/7:30 pm ET) and North Texas (Dec. 1 at 12 pm local/5 pm ET) before flying back to Raleigh. Radio broadcaster Andrew Sanders will be calling the action on WKNC 88.1 FM in Raleigh. NC State's game against Hawaii is the only one that will feature a live video stream.

NOTING THE WOLFPACK (5-0)
-Ranked 12th by the AP and 12th by USA Today.
-Selected to finish second in the ACC this season.
-No. 2 nationally in defensive rebounds per game (37.8).
-No. 3 in fewest fouls committed per game (11.2).
-No. 5 in scoring defense (45.6 points per game).
-No. 5 in in FG percentage defense (.272).
-No. 13 in scoring margin (+32.4).
-Sophomore Elissa Cunane ranks 50th in double-doubles (3).

SCOUTING THE LONGHORNS (3-2)
-Went 23-10 last season and loss in the NCAA first round.
-Selected to finish second in the Big 12 this season.
-No. 11 nationally in rebound margin (+15.0).
-Post players Joyner Holmes (18.8p & 10.4r) and Charli Collier (17.2p & 12.0r) are each averaging double-doubles. Collier ranks 15th nationally in rebounds per game.

SERIES HISTORY (NC State trails 6-1)
-In the last meeting between the teams, Texas won 84-80 in Austin in the second round of the 2017 NCAA Tournament.
-The Wolfpack has lost five straight to the Longhorns.
-NC State's last win over Texas was a 91-89 (2OT) victory in Raleigh in January of 1981.

SHARING THE WEALTH
NC State had six players score 10+ points in the Nov. 24 win at Saint Mary's. The last time the Wolfpack had more than five players score 10+ points in a single game was a 102-49 victory over Longwood on Nov. 15, 2012. In that game, eight players scored 10+ points.

700 WINS FOR HEAD COACH WES MOORE
With an 80-40 win over UNCW on November 10, NC State's Wes Moore earned the 700th victory of his head coaching career. He became just the 11th active and 22nd ever NCAA Division I women's basketball coach to do so.

TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS ON THE ROAD
Now in season seven under head coach Wes Moore, the Wolfpack has earned 41 true road wins (average of 6.7 per completed season) since the start of the 2013-14 season. In the prior eight seasons from 2005-06 to 2012-13, the Wolfpack earned 32 true road wins (4.0 per season).

NEWCOMERS MAKING AN IMPACT
Newcomers Jakia Brown-Turner (10.8 points per game) and Jada Boyd (10.6 points, 8.8 rebounds per game) have made immediate impacts during the Wolfpack's first five games.

JUNIOR FORWARD JONES STEPPING UP
Junior forward Kayla Jones is making the most of her first five career starts. She has averaged 11.8 points and 7.4 rebounds per game while shooting 21-of-40 (52.5 percent) from the field. Last season, Jones averaged 4.7 points and 4.4 rebounds per outing.
