Trent Hidlay Named ACC Wrestler of the Week

R-Fr. nabbed a pair of top-five wins in road duals
RALEIGH, N.C. – Two weeks into the NC State wrestling season, two ACC Wrestlers of the Week.

Two Hidlay brothers, two ACC Wrestler of the Week honors as well.

Last week it was R-Jr. Hayden Hidlay (157 pounds) who nabbed the conference honor, this week R-Fr. Trent Hidlay (184) follows suit after he downed a pair of top-five foes in road duals this past weekend.

The younger Hidlay brother started his Saturday with a 7-5 win over #5 Darmstadt of Cornell, then in the night cap downed #4 DePrez of Binghamton in extra time, 2-1.

Against Darmstadt, Hidlay scored a takedown and then a reversal in the first period. With the score tied 4-4 in the third, and Darmstadt securing the ride time point, Hidlay forced a second stall and then scored the winning takedown with 12 seconds left.

In the win over DePrez, the score was tied 1-1 and remained that way into sudden victory. Hidlay then rode out DePrez in the first 30 second tiebreaker period, and scored the winning point off an escape with just three seconds left in the second TB period.

In addition to the conference honor, Hidlay was named TheOpenMat's College Wrestler of the Week as well.

Hidlay has now moved up in the national rankings at 184 pounds, #2 according to FloWrestling and #4 by both InterMat and TheOpenMat.

NC State will be off this weekend, and return to action Dec. 6-7 traveling to the Cliff Keen Invitational in Las Vegas, where seven of the top-10 wrestlers at 184 pounds are expected to compete.
