RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State men's basketball team picked up its third consecutive win as it cruised past St. Francis Brooklyn, 95-64, Saturday afternoon inside James T. Valvano Arena at Reynolds Coliseum. With the victory, the Pack improved to 3-1 on the year, while the Terriers fall to 1-3.
C.J. Bryce recorded his second double-double of the year with 22 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Pack to its highest scoring total of the early 2019-20 campaign.
D.J. Funderburk (17 points), Devon Daniels (13 points), Manny Bates (12 points) and Jericole Hellems (12 points) also put up double-digit scoring figures for NC State.
The squad totaled a season-high nine steals and forced 20 turnovers that converted into 29 Wolfpack points.
After leading by 10 at the break, NC State opened the second half by grabbing five offensive boards and two steals in the first three minutes. It sparked a 14-3 run, including nine unanswered points, that extended the Pack's lead to 58-37 and put the game out of reach for the Terriers.
The Wolfpack dominated the paint, outscoring St. Francis Brooklyn 60-32 in that category, with 37 of those points coming in the second half. It was the most points in the paint for the Pack since Dec. 2, 2017 when it recorded 62 against South Carolina State.
The team weathered through a nearly five-minute field goal drought in the first half by going 6-for-6 from the charity stripe during that span. Bryce ended that drought at the 4:43 mark of the first half to give the Pack a double-digit lead that it would not relinquish for the remainder of the game.
Chauncey Hawkins (16 points, eight rebounds) and Rob Higgins (12 points) led the Terriers on Saturday.
NC State returns to Reynolds Coliseum on Tuesday, Nov. 19 as it takes on Alcorn State. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m., and the game will be aired live on ACCNX.
